A summer of festivals

Talking about Edinburgh in summer is talking about festivals. It has a huge range of cultural activities on offer, especially during August. The most important being the Edinburgh International Festival, world-renowned due to its top-class performances. Artists from all over the world bring theatre, dance, music, poetry and much much more to the city. And every year, the Festival closes with an amazing fireworks concert, taking place at the Edinburgh castle and featuring music performed live by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

As well as the International Festival, another alternative arts festival that has become increasingly popular is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the largest performing arts festivals in the world today, offering a huge variety of street performers throughout the city; quite a  lively scene!

Another event that also takes place in August is the Military Tattoo. Since 1950 this colourful parade brings together more than a thousand participants to celebrate on the esplanade of the castle. The sweet, unforgettable sound of the Scottish bagpipes really make this event unique.  And if this weren´t enough, there are also more festivals like the Jazz and Blues Festival, the Arts Festival or the Book Festival… In Edinburgh, there’s a festival to suit everyone’s tastes.
