Torrijas with milk homemade recipe
Torrijas is a very popular dessert in Spain during Easter. The recipe is very simple so we encourage you to use your culinary skills by following these steps to prepare a tasty homemade torrijas with milk.
Ingredients you will need:
4 eggs
1 litre of milk
1 cup of sugar
Cinnamon
Olive oil
Optional: An orange and a lemon zest
Method:
-
Mix the sugar and the milk.
-
Cut the bread into thick slices and soak them in the milk.
-
Heat the oil in a saucepan. Meanwhile, whisk the eggs. When the oil is ready for frying, dip the slices of bread into the egg mixture allowing them to soak on both sides. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
-
Put the bread slices on a plate with some kitchen paper to absorb the excess of oil.
-
Finally, place the torrijas on a shallow wide dish and add the rest of the milk with the sugar and some cinnamon.
Tip: If you would like to add a special flavor to the milk, heat it up with some sugar, a piece of orange zest, lemon zest and a cinnamon stick.
If you study Spanish, why not read this recipe in the original language? If you do, you will see that the imperative form is used in an informal way to give instructions. Get some practice with this tense by changing the verbs to the formal “usted” form. How would the explanations be?
And remember; there is no better way to put your language skills into practise than doing a full language immersion course. We would be delighted if you could join us for one of our trips to learn or improve Spanish or English.
