5 unmissable things to do on your visit to Asturias

Asturias, a remarkable northern region in Spain, is a must-see destination. If you have never visited, we will guide you through 5 unmissable things to do while you are there. From savouring traditional cider to exploring breathtaking landscapes and charming fishing villages. Asturias has something for everyone. Let’s dive into the heart of this region.

1. Visit the three main cities

While a significant part of Asturias’ beauty emanates from its villages and natural landscapes, a visit to its three main cities is also worthwhile. Oviedo, the capital, is steeped in history and boasts stunning architecture. Gijón is a beautiful coastal city where you can enjoy seafront promenades and a vibrant cultural scene. The smallest of the three is Avilés, known for its rich industrial heritage and modern urban development. This is the host city for our Asturias Spanish Immersion Pack.

2. Indulge in Asturian gastronomy

Asturian cuisine is a feast for the senses with its hearty and flavourful dishes. Try the famous fabada (a traditional bean stew that will satisfy your taste buds), sample the wide variety of Asturian cheeses – it boasts over 40 distinct types. And, of course, don’t miss out on trying the traditional dish called cachopo, which consists of two large veal or beef fillets typically stuffed with ham and cheese. The fillets are then breaded and fried to a crispy golden brown, creating a delicious meal.
